Static PresentsThe Buck Brothers-the U.K.s latest rock exports will play a special Detroit show on Wednesday, March 19 @ The Lager House as part of their first proper U.S. tour and appearance at the SXSW music festival.
The spirited trio has been making a name for themselves this past year in Europe and North America with their infectious brand of pop-punk rock n’ roll music that has found fans in the likes of Daniel Radcliffe of Harry Potter fame and infamous KROQ DJ Rodney Bigenheimer. To promote their debut album “me,” The Buck Brothers set out to break the world record entry for “the highest number of gigs performed in 12 hours.”  Click "read more" below.

DATERAID set to benefit Michigan artist
by: tomkat
2008-01-05 08:19:41

'DATERAID' is a benefit concert and silent art auction that will take place Jan. 20th 2008, at The Redrum in Kalamazoo starting at 1:00PM.

DaterAid08 The concert was established for local artist Chris Neale, who grew up in the Paw Paw/Kalamazoo area, to raise money for hospital bills. The name DATERAID arises from Chris' nickname growing up where he was called 'Dater', because before changing his last name to Neale, it was Date.  Chris, who lives in Texas, was diagnosed with liposarcoma, a cancer of the soft tissue. Doctors removed a 10-pound tumor from his abdomen that had caused a great deal of pain.  Following his week-long hospital stay he had amassed around $50,000 in hospital bills, and he did not have health insurance.

You Will Never Get a Record Deal
by: wiki
2008-02-10 00:00:00

music & moneyAccording to an article by Bruce Warila over at UnsprungMedia.com, the days of landing a major label record deal by being "discovered" by an A&R rep and given a big, fat cash advance are 'dead over.'  Record companies, like a lot of companies in Michigan these days, are slashing their payrolls of dead wood, reorganizing and re-investing. In the case of EMI, that means 1500 to 2000 jobs are done - over.  That means indie bands will also have to re-think their strategies.  Warila argues that they need to forget about finding a "deal" and start looking to attract investment - just like any other business.  Click "read more" below for a links to three articles about investrment strategies for Indie bands.

Back In LA With Ty Stone
by: Mitch
2008-03-27 10:30:00

Back in 2002, before he was signed to Top Dog, Ty Stone was just another struggling bandhead with a guitar, a dream and maybe enough attitude and a good enough voice to make that all work out for him.  But the only way to find out for sure was to make some tough choices and risk everything he knew; he had to leave his friends, leave his band and leave Michgian 2500 miles behind to find his fortune in Los Angeles - which took him right back to Michigan.  Lucky for us, Ty kept in touch all along the way and shared his LA stories with us in three installments: "How To Get A Gig In LA", "Mojave Marinola & The Desert Dream" and "How I Got A Decent F***'n Record Deal".
Now, six years later and much richer for the experience, Ty is back in LA  to do some business and figured it would be a perfect time to reminisce and add another chapter to the story (thanks for remembering us Ty).
Click "read more" below for Ty's latest and links to all the rest.

STIT is
by: ace924

STIT was originally formed in 1989. They had a pending deal with CBS that unfortunatly fell through. They played the Bar Scene till 1991 and eventually called it quits. In the spring of 2006, STIT was discovered by RETROSPECT RECORDS out of Las Vegas off a local website thanks to a good friend Dave Hess. RETROSPECT wanted to release a 1990 recording. But instead they decided to reform and record some never performed or recorded songs they had written. With that they have produced, STIT, "BACKWARDS". Click "read more" below.

The urban legend of a cardboard double bass that plays well and sounds wonderfuL has proven to exist! Soon, i'll have a kit available that comes complete with a box of crayons (some assembly required). It's fun to do the impossible.

Interview: Vinnie & Dana from CRUD
by: chief editor
2007-07-25 09:35:00

Since 2000, Crud has been giving some of the most talked-about live performances in the city of Detroit and beyond. They've been known to wear vinyl, perform in their underwear, wear pasties, play strip joints and have even shared their stage with some scary-ass, bad-mannered puppets. Crud's 'super-charged sex rock' has been compared to White Zombie and Ministry and their latest CD, “Devil At The Wheel”, was described by one fan as, ‘'a thoroughly enjoyable romp through the kind of sleazo, nitrous oxide-injected rock'n'roll that anyone with a taste for nasty guitars and pounding rhythms is gonna dig’. Couldn’t have said it better ourselves. Crud’s label, Full Effect Records, will be sending the crew on tour in support of the international release of “Devil At The Wheel”. I caught up with frontman Vin E Dombrowski (Sponge, Orbitsuns) and bassist Dana Forrester (60 Second Crush) this week via e-mail.

Euphoric Haze CD Release Party @ Token w/Flophouse, Steppdogg
by: mitch
2008-02-26 18:10:00

Back when my wife worked for an industrial tool supplier in Redford she noticed that one of her co-workers often sang along to the radio.  Not just musical mumbling mind you, but belting out the song better than the vocals coming out of the speakers.  She only knew him as Howard, one of the few people she could tolerate at that job. As it turned out, that co-worker was Howard Whitaker - the lead singer for the alternative rock band Euphoric Haze.  She brought home his CD, Euphoric Haze's "Volume One", and we were both pretty impressed.  It was like a mix of Seattle grunge and power pop, just like their link description here on MB said.  The sound was tight and the songs were good.
Four years later, Euphoric Haze has finally released their long-awaited follow-up, "Losing Sleep"  on Hell City Records.  To celebrate, they'll be throwing their CD release party at The Token Lounge this Saturday, March 1st.  It's not only ther perfect opportunity to see Euphoric Haze, but also Flophouse, Steppdogg (former Nasties/Face drummer Steve Firneno's new band) and The Black List.  It's going to be a great night of rock and we hope to see you there. - MItch

Lest We Forget.....There's Always YouTube!
by: chief editor
2007-08-04 10:05:09

It's been four years since the war in Iraq began and for most people, that's plenty long enough to become fatigued from daily reports of military and civilian deaths and destruction. Psychologically, we'd rather ignore or avoid the details when we can. It's just too much to process. Hell, I'd bet that many of us cant even remember how we got into this damn war. Well for those who can't, we have a treat for you - courtesy of our "friends" over at HarRockDetroit.com who posted this YouTube video in their forum. I think it bears repeating....Click "read more" below to check it out.

Music Review: The Polka Floyd Show
by: Mitch
2008-02-08 21:35:00

Imagine square dancing at cirque de soleil or smoking a hookah while wearing lederhosen and you might begin to approach the bizarre synthesis that is The Polka Floyd Show, a band who channels Pink Floyd through the medium of Polka music.  Their self-titled debut gives a unique spin on seven classic Pink Floyd tracks from six different albums that span three decades.

Polka Floyd's debut CD Release Party will take place this Saturday (February 9th) at The New Dodge in Hamtramck (where else, right?).  So load up on the Paczkis and beer because it's going to be a crazy night.

Happy Independence Day Bandheads
by: chief editor
2007-07-04 10:07:53

Happy Independence Day Michigan Bandheads! Today we celebrate not just our break with Great Britain some 231 years ago, but our independence from all forms of tyranny and oppression, including those imposed on us and all peace-loving people by violent political ideologies and religions. We'll declare our independence from the shortsightedness of the FCC for not insisting on more local programming and local music on the public airwaves. We'll declare our independence from the global economy which continues to export our jobs and drag our standard of living into the toilet. We'll celebrate the independent spirit that is manifest through local independent music. We'll affirm a new dedication to localism, starting with the music performances we attend. With that said, check our calendar for an event near you or, better yet, submit one of your own. - Mitch
